It’s said that the best place to start is at the very beginning, and with dentistry, it all begins with an initial comprehensive dental examination.
During
your initial exam we will review your medical history, dental history,
update your records with digital x-rays, perform oral cancer screening,
periodontal examination, TMJ function, and address your immediate
concerns.
Additionally, a meticulous tooth-by-tooth check to
identify cavities,
examine prior treatment and restorations and the current condition each,
locate any chipped, cracked or missing teeth, or identify any work that
needs to be performed, and other necessary information in helping you
achieve excellent oral health. Once we have the results of your
comprehensive exam, your doctor will discuss and explain his
recommendations for treatment.
If
we do not see any signs of gum disease, or should you not require more
extensive gum treatments, we will
complete a thorough cleaning and provide any oral hygiene
recommendations at this first visit. Otherwise, we may need to schedule
a follow up appointment for a more in-depth periodontal care.
If you have seen another dentist in the past or have recently had
dental x-rays taken within the last 12 months, please let us know before
your examination so we can help you request your dental records.
